The most essential thing i have done this year is reestablished boring routine in my life.
Work
Eat
Sleep
Exercise
Talk with friends.
I could recall highlights:
I’m delighted that i have set up a weekly online cooking club with my grown sons, where we cook a meal together in our own kitchens. New recipe each week.
I was delighted to discover the week we made chocolate mousse to celebrate some other family wins, that
-
- They can both separate eggs with no drama. This feels like a parenting win
- They both prefer to cook a real meal in our time together rather than sweets. Double win.
I helped my friend pull together and open an online membership site to propagate her excellent real life studio classes further in the world.
I propagated a windowsill full of succulents and shared them as christmas and housewarming gifts.
I recorded a dozen podcast episodes sharing the stories of women who turned tricky places in their lives into turning points.
These are quietly gratifying.
I feel all of them arose from steady commitment.
Scheduling and showing up for people and ideas that felt – and still feel – true and meaningful for me.
Where do the ideas and people come from????
Following other people and ideas with less devotion and more curiosity, until something lands with a thud.
Oh, yes, that’s the thing.
And all of it fits within the boring routine of work, eat, sleep, move, talk with friends.
Which is the foundational commitment.
Especially adding in lots of movement and conversation.
I don’t even wish I had something more exciting to tell you.
I am feeling deeply grounded and positive here and now in the relative stability I’ve created and sustained.
It feels like a solid foundation to take into next year.
I have some goals already lined up.
Number one is dancing in the ballet concert at the end of next year.
Number two is going in the ocean every week all year.
Number three is regular massage and nervous system treatments, and an EOY spa retreat.
All of these, and the others up my sleeve are based on already existing habits and connections. Dance lessons, beach walking, trusted practitioners and friends.
All I am committing to is going up a level.
And on a strong foundation, that seems very doable.
So I sing over the carefully gathered and organised bones, the foundation, a song of appreciation and gratitude, and the spirit of more freedom arises easily, inviting me forward with grace.
I suspect this may be quiet confidence talking, which is not a familiar voice for me.
There’s been a lot of stretching and scratching to pull things out of hats in the past.
The charm of that drama is now lost on me.
These days I’m more interested in the real magic of serendipity and synchronicity that comes with steady practice and commitment.
Oh, here it is.
Pure delight.
Looking forward to the new year.
Wishing you all the best.
Turns out
Breathing space
to remember why you’re here
is what I have to offer.
