I was halfway through writing about something else—something slow and kind that I’ll share next week—when a small glimmer blinked in from the edge of my awareness. A unicorn. Literally, a unicorn had appeared in the search bar at the bottom of my screen. I hovered. International Unicorn Day. The link took me to a short blurb about how the day was founded in 2015 to help adults remember that life could still be fun if you let in a little magic. I smiled. It was oddly charming. An unexpected interruption to the mission I thought I was on.
That little moment pulled a thread. I started thinking about Easter eggs—the pop culture kind and the real-life ones too. I learned about them in Ready Player One. The treats to be found beyond winning the game, the paradox of finding something you weren’t chasing. A bittersweet reference tucked into A Minecraft Movie for those who know Technoblade. They’re designed to reward attention, but they also ask something quieter: Will you slow down enough to notice what wasn’t meant to be found right away?
Later that day, scrolling The Conversation, I found something that felt like one of those planted gifts. An essay on how different languages reflect – and shape – attention. It turns out the Māori have a whole world of words for ferns, and the Inuit might truly have the most ways to talk about snow—including one just for the sound of it underfoot. That detail stopped me. Wonder can live in the precision of attention. And that can be enough.

This week, let yourself drift toward the unexpected. Follow the footnote. Click the link with a funny title. You don’t have to finish the thing to find what you’re looking for.

💌 Encouragement for Sensitive Souls
You’re allowed to ignore every suggestion above and still be exactly where you need to be.
Not every glimmer becomes a quest.

AuDHD-friendly Affirmation for wondering women:
Many women with AuDHD in their lives love to notice the hidden layers, trace patterns, and find meaning in the smallest things.
They are conditioned to rush past wonder in pursuit of productivity or clarity.
Which undermines our ability to feel the quiet joy of discovery, or trust our own pace of insight.
Remember you can pause, let delight interrupt you, and follow the glimmers.
I trust you to sense what matters—by how it lands in your body, not how it looks from the outside.
Inside Wild Mandala AuDHDventure, you will find a delight filled invitation to presence, discovery and insight.
Notes on finding a unicorn when I was being serious and dillgent
So i was writing what I thought was this week’s kindness newsletter content about slowness (which i’ll send next week, lol)
On my windows 11 laptop
All the way down to the bottom of the page
And i discover this unicorn!
Ooh, there’s a unicorn in the bing search bar! – mouse over > national unicorn day!
Irresistible! LOL
National Unicorn Day was founded in 2015 to celebrate these majestic creatures and help adults remember how much more fun life can be when they let a little magic in sometimes.
Unicorns aren’t just mythical creatures—they are symbols of hope, strength, and possibility. This International Unicorn Day, we invite you to seek glimmers, spread sparkle, and celebrate strengths and differences, as we connect these ideas to the fight against gender-based violence.
Seeking Glimmers – In trauma-informed work, glimmers are those small moments of hope and joy that remind us healing is possible. Unicorns embody these sparks of light, guiding us toward a safer and more just world.
Spreading Sparkle – Every act of kindness, awareness, and advocacy creates ripples of change. Just like unicorns leave trails of magic, we can leave a lasting impact in our communities.
Celebrating Strengths & Differences – Unicorns are unique, bold, and unapologetically themselves—just like every person’s journey of resilience and empowerment. This event is about honouring diversity and embracing what makes us all powerful.
Easter eggs – i learned about them in Ready Player One. They’re the discoveries that are possible when you play to play, not to win. Wink, nod, smile to the audience/players that we have a shared knowledge and experience base. So in movies and games they are totally planted – to sprout in the hearts and minds of the attentive audience. Technoblade reference in the Minecraft Movie.
But they exist in life as well. Those moments of serendipity when we smile and laugh and connect for a moment in the midst of getting on with things. Recognition of something bigger than ourselves.
Like in real easter egg hunts, some of us sometimes take this very seriously, checking off a lot of boxes and arguing about the rules. Which possibly has its place for those who enjoy that kind of interaction.
But i’m more here for the delight of discovering something I didn’t expect to find.
For example this week I discovered that the whole spirit realm is actually real. Hard to see because it’s everywhere and we’re swimming in it. But my scientific trained and biased mind was suddenly able to acknowledge that spirit is real. A concept i’ve been playing with for a while that suddenly landed, due to the confluence of reading and experiencing. I’m not sure what effect this will have on my life yet. Stay tuned.
But it doesn’t have to be that big. I have a regular habit of catching up on the news through The Conversation. I found a delightful and unexpected essay about language and cultural focus (and it turns out that the Inuit may in fact have the most words for snow, including one for the sound of walking on hard snow. Also that the Maori have a lot of words for ferns < that one I loved). There’s even a correlation machine. I must go back and find out what English has the most words for….
In fact this is probably why I read what I do. For the joy of discovery, delight, affirmation.
Easter eggs. All year round.
Enjoy the side quests!
There’s always more work.
There is just enough time
There is rarely enough attention.
