Radiant Voices interview with Laila Atmane, Move with Agility

Listen, comment and follow on Spotify podcasts

This episode is more conversation, less interview, because it is literally a conversation we had to discuss an interview.

Consequently is a bit of a meta episode, where Radiant Voices meets its predecessor, “If you had a podcast, what would you talk about?”.

You’ll find out more about how Radiant Voices began, as well as Laila’s story about writing every day for a year.    I love an every day for a year stories.  That is embodied commitment.

I have three takeaways to share from this patchwork conversation.

First – the value of listening and reflecting back what lands.

I am making a habit of doing this in each interview now.  Helps me pay a little more attention to my own experience in the dialogue.

And this time around, Laila reflected back a few moments to me.   Notably “make peace with it all”

As a receiver of these reflections, it felt like radar pings – echo locating – “ok, so that’s where she’s at with this message.”

This reflecting back is at the root of active listening – which is a practice of mapping joint understanding.

Affirming what parts of messages are landing, and which may need refining.

The messages coming through in any good conversation are for both of you, and might come from either’s mouth.

Reminder that us-two is an entity that is more than the sum of you and me.

Talking and reflecting and writing builds  dense connections and networks between ideas.   A very satisfying positive feedback process.

Highly recommended as a regular practice.

Second, That we may need to be reminded of / affirmed in what we already know when we need to lean on that truth.

Often when i’m trying to make a decision, i kind of already know what needs doing, but may be seeking validation of some part of the process that i think is reasonable, but need it affirmed externally, to trust that my inner knowing applies beyond my own thoughts.

In other words, I want to affirm that my own inner logic has a place in the external world.

So hearing what I already know independently coming back to me from outside is like finding the other end of a bridge between my inner and outer realities.

That’s a deeply encouraging experience.

Third That edges and beginnings are scary and uncomfortable – and showing up repeatedly takes off the pressure to perform a certain way, allows unexpected creativity and freedom

Egdges and beginnings are sketchy places, literally penciling each move, to see how it fits and feels.

Where we are stepping from the known to the unknown is a  Leap of faith – this is not trivial.

And sometimes the shuffle of faith makes it easier.   Very small steps.

Keep your balance.

Keep moving. Keep going.

Cliff Young, i’m looking at you.

There’s a whole range of emotions that arise with and around beginnings.  Emotions may provide the energetic impetus to try new things, but can also overwhelm the emergent experience.

Compassionate structure and gentle commitment helps.

Expecting resistance and allowing time for processsing is wise.

Scaffolding with human and more than human connection and support makes long term gains possible.

Break it into easy pieces, and showing up repeatedly fills in the gaps.

Takes the pressure off any individual instance.

Enables rest, Growth and learning in between efforts.

Building a body of work

Not all of it is necessarily brilliant,

And – back to the beginning –

The collection is more than the sum of the parts

The connections and the spaces between are also part of the whole.

What a delight this conversation and this reflection on it.   I’d love to know what lands for you too.

Showing up and sharing stories

What if the story you most need… is the one you keep forgetting to tell yourself?

“I need to hear that story a lot. I really need to hear that story a lot so that I can really believe it and enact that in my own life, as I need to let go of the things that I think keep me safe in the hope and the trust and the faith that another thing will turn up.”

“If I would be totally honest with you,  it comes with a lot of challenge.  I feel when I’m starting to get closer to my truth and stepping up and I feel like there’s a force sometimes that wants to hold me back.”

In this heart-expanding conversation, Rachael Skyring and Laila Atmane speak candidly about the quiet courage it takes to release what feels safe, listen for the glimmers of truth, and lean into the discomfort of becoming. From the forces that try to hold us back to the stories we need to hear on repeat just to believe they’re real—we explore the sacred tension between holding on and letting go, between individual truth and shared connection. If you’re on the cusp of something tender and true, this episode is for you.

Encouragement for Sensitive Souls:

If you’re feeling daunted by the swirl of words and ideas, take a breath. 🌬️

Remember, you don’t have to catch every insight or follow every thought.

Let the conversation wash over you like waves—

trust that whatever needs to land will gently stay with you.

Your own wisdom will rise up in response.

Listen at your own pace, and let curiosity be your guide. 💖

AuDHD-friendly affirmation for thoughtful women

You are allowed to take your time, to reflect, and to find your own meaning in each experience. Your insights matter.

Many women with AuDHD in their lives love to offer support, seek understanding, and reflect deeply on their own and others’ experiences.

They are conditioned to prioritize others’ voices over their own, seeking external validation rather than trusting their inner knowing.

Which undermines our ability to recognize the value of our own wisdom and trust that our inner logic has a place in the external world.

Remember you can pause, reflect, and lean into the uncertainty of beginnings without having to have it all figured out.

I trust you to show up with curiosity, embrace the discomfort of the unknown, and keep moving forward at your own pace.

Inside Radiant Voices, you’ll find real conversations where honest reflections and shared stories create a rich patchwork of insights—an invitation to listen, connect, and explore what resonates for you.

Draft Notes on listening and reflections

My takeaways include:

The value of listening and reflecting back what lands – these are glimmers?

That we may need to be reminded of and affirmed in what we already know when we need to lean on that truth.

That edges and beginnings are scary and uncomfortable – and showing up repeatedly takes off the pressure to perform a certain way, allows unexpected creativity and freedom

It’s more conversation, less interview, because it is literally a conversation we had to discuss an interview.

But in my diabolical way, i have learned that the fresher the better.  Truth and insight is being revealed all the time.

Consequently is a bit of a meta episode, where radiant voices meets its predecessor, if you had a podcast, what would you talk about.

You’ll find out more about how Radiant Voices began, as well as Laila’s story about writing every day for a year.    I love an every day for a year stories.  That is embodied commitment.

I have three takeaways from this rich conversation.  I’m so lucky to have these opportunities!

First – the value of listening and reflecting back what lands.

I am making a habit of doing this in each interview now.  Helps me pay a little more attention.

And this time around, Laila reflected back a few moments to me which was kind of like radar – ok, so that’s where she’s at with this message.

Hmm echo locating.   That’s a novel idea.

Gosh talking and reflecting and writing is a rich process!

Highly recommended.

Anyway, that’s the root of active listening – which is a whole practice.   And good for everybody involved.

Because the messages coming through in any good conversation are for both of you, and might come from either’s mouth.

Reminder that us-two is an entity that is more than the sum of you and me.   Us.

Second, That we may need to be reminded of and affirmed in what we already know when we need to lean on that truth.

So foten when i’m trying to make a decision, i kind of already know what needs doing, but am seeking validation of some part of the process that i think is for real, but need it affirmed externally

Oh, because i may be thinking to act externally and need to be sure that my internal logic also applies out there.

Hmmm another intriguing thought.

Because internal and external worlds, sometimes the rules don’t line up so well.

Third That edges and beginnings are scary and uncomfortable – and showing up repeatedly takes off the pressure to perform a certain way, allows unexpected creativity and freedom

Egdges and beginnings are sketchy places, literally.

Where stepping from the known to the unknown.   Leap of faith.

Not trivial.

And sometimes the shuffle of faith makes it easier.   Very small steps.  Keep your balance.

Keep moving. Keep going.

Cliff Young, i’m looking at you.

There’s a whole range of emotions that arise around beginnings,

Structure helps.   Scaffolding.

Break it into easy pieces.

The usual advice applies.

And showing up repeatedly fills in the gaps.  Takes the pressure off.   Grow and learn.

Building a body of work

Not all of it is brilliant

And back to the beginning

The collection is more than the sum of hte parts

The connections between also count

The spaces connect and support
