Radiant Voices interview with Gloria Esguerra, Founder of Five Star Life
What an aware and intentional woman!
Changing countries from Phillipines to Canada six months pregnant.
Changing careers from advertising to business analyst
Raising two children in a new country
Then asking what more can i do?
Women are amazing.
Gloria has an instagram feed with some great wisdom in it, helping immigrant women thrive abroad.
I loved her permission for introverts at networking events.
You dont have to talk to everybody in the room.
One or two longer, deeper conversations may create more rewarding connections
Than a complete circle of small talk and personal pitching.
Sounds like good advice to me.
Which is also what Gloria shares partly inspired her plunge into coaching, the feedback from friends and acquaintances that she gives useful advice.
Gloria tells me how she weighs up many decisions carefully.
But then also specifically practices jumping and trusting
Through literal paragliding – jumping off a cliff
And not just one time
But from time to time.
Failure is not a thing.
When plans don’t turn out the way you want, something better that you could not imagine is coming.
That you dare not imagine, Until your plans don’t work out.
It’s so hard to keep that mindset when plans are not working out!!!!
And yet when we look back with that wisdom,
We can see it.
That is the source of hope.
This situation is not what i wished for.
Keep going, and something else, beyond my wishing, can come along.
That is an immense mental discipline right there.
To continue to believe that something else that i could not, dared not wish for is coming my way.
Keep going.
She also shares her totally relatable feeling of resistance to being called to work that she’s not sure she’s the right person for.
Really, me? Now? This?
The doubt that is the precursor to real faith.
Following that inner calling, even and especially when not feeling ready.
It both takes faith and builds faith to go down that path.
The paradox.
Step by small step.
Baby steps – full body leaps of faith every stumbling step.
In the trust that there is no failure, only learning.
Defying gravity – there’s a song about that.
